Advanced Differential Equations

To acquire knowledge of the underlying mathematical theory to solve advanced problems in differential equations.

Phase plane and stability, Poincare-Bendixon theorem, limit cycles, Lyapunov functions. Basic PDE’s: the Laplace equation, the wave equation and the heat equation. Canonical forms of PDE’s. Methods of solutions: basic separation of variables, method of characteristics, Green’s function. Application to problems arising in mathematical physics.


Class tests and/or assignments (33%), 3h exam (67%).

30% Class mark, 80% attendance at lectures & tutorials.
