Additional Foundation Mathematics

To provide a foundation for all 1st year mathematics modules.

Numerical skills; Proportion; Set theory; Data collection; Equations & inequalities; Perimeter, area & volume; Open-ended investigation, presentation of results; Numbers; Functions: Linear, Quadratic, Circular, Rectangular Hyperbolic, Piecemeal, Absolute Value, Trigonometric, Exponential, Logarithmic; Introductory Calculus; Sigma notation; Proof by induction; Bases & number representation; Polynomial division; Division algorithm.


2 investigations, 8 class tests, 3 h June test (50%), 3h + 1h November exam (50%).

40% Class mark, 80% attendance at lectures & tutorials.

Year-long Module. This module is only for students in the Science Foundation Programme and carries 40 Foundational credits only.
